Annual Inklings Conference

Whether the goal is to get into the head of a character, set a mood, reveal emotion, establish a particular pace or rhythm, or create a narrative voice, music can elevate words. In “The Sound of Your Story” breakout session, Maureen Charles and I showed how.

Young Inklings Book Contest

It’s a joy to work with talented young writers in the Society of Young Inklings. Each Inklings Anthology features stories and poems written by youth (in grades three through nine) along with letters from the mentors who guided them through revisions. The result is part celebration of powerful new voices and part practical revision guide.

Performing Animal Welfare Society, Galt, California

While visiting PAWS for book research, my kids fell for Nicholas. Retired from a circus where he’d been trained to ride a tricycle, this Asian bull elephant now roams the sanctuary’s acreage in Galt. PAWS provides life-long care for Nicholas and other animals exploited by the entertainment industry and private collectors.
